How Listening Based Communication Can Positively Affect Trust

“Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. The friends who listen to us are the ones we move toward. When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand.” — Karl Menninger

In most personal interactions we have trust influences how confidence is placed or expectations are set with one another. Surrendering your trust and confidence to somebody may not be an easy task especially if you have been let down in the past. However, if given the chance, building that foundation of trust in personal or business interactions can lead to a positive difference. Allowing each party the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the other through the transparency that trust affords.

In order to build a foundation on trust, both the giver and receiver will need to have open communication and be honest.  Take a moment to listen (How Listening Builds  Better Business Relationships) and ask questions to understand their needs and expectations. When being the listener, the speaker will take notice to the amount of attention you are giving them during communication. During that moment, you can plant a seed that will allow their belief and comfortability in your relationship to grow. As this happens you will become a safe haven for the information that is necessary to address their needs. Next, to keep that relationship and trust moving forward, you as the giver will need to show them that through your attentiveness you have heard their needs and can respond with the information that best suits them. Now you have the ability to provide an unique solution which will give them the peace of mind knowing that their expressed needs are being explicitly met. Through this process you are showing you have listened, paid attention to their details, and value the relationship you are building together. However, to keep a healthy trusting relationship going, the giver must make it a priority to keep this type of communication consistent.  Consistency will seal the deal on gaining that trust.

At M3T Corporation, no matter what role each person plays, whether it is Administrative Assistant, Finance and HR, Technical/Integration Support, Account Managers, Project Managers, and Business Developer, we all listen and grasp information when interacting with a customer. When the customer knows they are being heard, and actions are being put in motion, M3T has effectively created a relationship built on trust.  Now, in order to keep that trust going, M3T will provide solutions to keep that client at ease, whether it is providing the appropriate security solution, answering customer questions, getting back to the customer promptly, or even if it means checking in time to time.  Here at M3T Corporation, we build our relationships with our clients based on trust.
